.Lesson 1: Introducing Yourself - Tuesday, 26 Feb 2008

Today, I am going to show you how you can introduce yourslef to others.

(الفاعل)It is important to know that the English sentence normally starts with the subject
, which is followed by a verb. So the sentence may start like this

........My name is (أسمي يكون)
........I am (أنا أكون)
........I live (أنا أعيش)
........I work as (أنا أعمل كـ)
........I like (أنا أحب)
........I have (أنا عندي - أنا أملك - لدي)

.The verb is followed by the rest of the sentence, of course

:If I know that I have the following groups of words

from Saudi Arabia (من المملكة العربية السعودية)
in Riyadh (في الرياض)
an employee (موظف)
a journalist (صحفي)
a reporter (مراسل)
Thirty years old (ثلاثون عاما من العمر)
married (متزوج)
children (أطفال)
single (أعزب)
I like swimming and watching TV (أحب للسباحة - و يستخدم الفعل يحب متبوعا بفعل تتصل به الـ ing للتكلم عن أنشطة يحبها الشخص
I go swimming (أذهب للسباحة - و يستخدم الفعل يذهب متبوعا بفعل تتصل به الـ ing للتكلم عن أنشطة يقوم بها الشخص)
jogging (مشي سريع)
,In my free time (في وقت فراغي)

.then I can combine these elements to make meaningful sentences

.To introduce myself to others, I need to talk about the following things. Not necessarily all but most

Name (الإسم)
Country (nationality) & Residence (الجنسية و مكان الإقامة)
Job (العمل)
Age (العمر)
Marital status (الوضع العائلي)
Family members (أفراد العائلة)
Hobbies (الهوايات)

:The result is

.My name is Abdulaziz. I am from Saudi Arabia. I live in Riyadh. I am a journalist. I work as a reporter for Al Bilad Newspaper. I am 30 years old. I am married. I have three children: two boys and a girl. I like reading and surfing the Internet. In my free time, I go swimming

:Using connectors, such as and, but, so, etc., I can make this text look and sound nicer and smoother to the listener or reader

.My name is Abdulaziz. I am from Saudi Arabia and I live in Riyadh. I am a journalsit, so I work as a reporter for Al Bilad Newspaper. I am 30 years old. I am married and I have three children: two boys and a girl. I like reading and surfing the Internet. In my free time, I go swimming
