ظاهرة تحدث بسبب التفاوت الكبير في درجات الحرارة، بين طبقات الجو العليا والسطحية
وتتكون مع عاصفة رعدية مطرية، تزيد فيها سرعة الرياح أحياناً عن 80 كيلومتراً في الساعة..

ؤ أن العاصفة خطيرة عند حدوثها في البحر، فيمكنها أن تقلب القوارب وتتسبب بأضرار فادحة كبيرة، عند وصولها اليابسة، و غالبا عمرها قصير ففترة تكونها وانتهائها تتراوح بين 4-15 دقيقة.

العافور أو مايسمى بالإعصار القمعي
هو بسبب تيار حار وتيار بارد يتصادمان مع بعضهافتخرج كمية كبيرة من التراب تتشكل على شكل عمود من الأرض إلى السماء،
وله مستويات في درجة قوته
